Hope Sandoval teamed up with the band Opal in the late 1980s with David Roback and long-time Roback collaborator Kendra Smith. After Smith’s sudden departure from the UK tour, Hope took the lead, and at the end of the tour, Reebok & Sandoval began writing together and formed the alternative rock band Mazzy Star.
The first Funny Star album was released in 1990, “She Hangs Brightly.” The band, then released in October 1993, had spectacular breakthrough success. “Fade into You” its second album, “So Tonight That I Might See,” was recorded a year before its success.
